Affinity Water works in collaboration with Cadent Gas and Openreach to reduce disruption during major utility replacement works in North London

Team at Hendon Wood Lane

  • Two strategic water mains in and around Hendon Wood Lane are to be renewed
  • This programme of work plays a vital role in improving the resilience of the water network to meet the needs of customers, reduce leakage and look after the environment.
  • A collaboration with Cadent Gas and Openreach will save 50 days of disruption or 7 weeks in all.

Affinity Water will be renewing approximately 1.6km of trunk main and 1.6km of distribution main in and around Hendon Wood Lane in the London Borough of Barnet. The public phase of the works will begin on the 21st of February and continue until mid-June 2022. As a result, there will be:

  • Temporary traffic lights in Highwood Hill and Totteridge Common.
  • A full road closure of Hendon Wood Lane with an associated diversion route approved by Barnet Highways.
  • Access to Residents and businesses will continue.

The works started on the 12th of January but on private land thereby minimising the impact to customers.

Affinity Water is working in collaboration with Cadent Gas and Openreach, who also both have works within Hendon Wood Lane and, as a result, we’ve reduced the period of disruption to customers by around seven weeks. This has been made possible with support from Barnet Highways and the Greater London Authority.

Phil Boothroyd, Head of Capital Delivery, at Affinity Water said: “I welcome this close collaboration with Cadent and Openreach, it is important that we minimise disruption to customers as much as possible whilst we deliver these essential works.

“We want all our customers who live in the region to know what is happening and we hope they will take the time to look at the route of the works and change their travel plans accordingly. We also wish to thank our customers for helping us to improve the resilience of the water network so that we can better meet their needs, reduce leakage and look after the environment.”
