Easter is the perfect time for fun, creativity, and, believe it or not, saving water! Instead of tossing out everyday items, why not turn them into something egg-stra special? These simple and sustainable crafts are not only great for the planet, but they also teach kids (and grown-ups!) how small actions can make a big impact.
1. Paper mâché Easter wall art
Instead of buying plastic decorations, make your own adorable Easter bunny or egg using paper mâché wall art! It’s easy, fun, and a great way to use water. Instead of soaking everything under a running tap, just mist the paper with a spray bottle. You could even reuse water from other projects to use even less water.
What you’ll need:
- Old newspapers, scrap paper or even toilet paper
- A spray bottle filled with water
- A bowl
- PVA glue
- Paint and brushes
- A canvas or card
How to make it:
- Mix equal parts PVA glue and water to create a paste.
- Tear the paper into strips and dip them into the paste.
- Layer the strips onto the cardboard in the shape of an Easter egg, bunny, or any Easter design.
- Let it dry completely to create a raised, textured effect.
- Paint and decorate your masterpiece! (Top tip: Wipe your brushes with a damp cloth rather than constantly dipping in and out of water)

2. Recycled plant pots with tins
Give empty tin cans a second life by turning them into plant pots! These are perfect for growing herbs or flowers while saving water through better soil retention.
What you’ll need:
- Empty tin cans (washed and label-free)
- Nail and hammer (for drainage holes)
- Paints, stickers, or twine for decoration
- Potting soil and seeds
How to make it:
- Carefully poke a few holes in the bottom of the can for drainage.
- Decorate the outside with paint or twine – you could even add Easter themed stickers!
- Fill with soil and plant your seeds.
- Water sparingly and watch them grow!

3. A water butt bin – rainwater saver
Collecting rainwater is a fantastic way to save water for your garden. If you don’t have a water butt yet, now’s the time to make one!
What you’ll need:
- A large plastic bin with a lid
- A drill
How to make it:
- Drill holes in the lid and secure it onto the bin
- Position your water butt under a downspout to collect rainwater.
- After collecting rainwater, simply dip a watering can into the water to fill it up.

4. Bunny-shaped milk carton rain catcher
This craft is a fun way to collect rainwater while adding some Easter charm to your garden using an old milk carton!
What you’ll need:
- An empty plastic milk carton
- Scissors and a marker
- Paints or stickers for decoration
- Cable tie or string
How to make it:
- Cut out the bottom section of the carton to create a wide opening.
- Use a marker to draw a bunny face on the front of the milk carton. Get creative and add Easter stickers too!
- Decorate your bunny with paint and let it dry.
- Place it outside upside down to collect rainwater! You can attach it to your garden fence using a cable tie or string.
5. Eggshell seed starters
Eggshells make the perfect mini planters for starting seeds, and they use a minimal amount of water too. Plus, they naturally break down in the soil, giving plants an extra nutrient boost!
What you’ll need:
- Empty eggshells (rinsed)
- Soil
- Seeds (herbs like basil or parsley work well)
- An egg carton
How to make it:
- Fill each eggshell with a small amount of soil.
- Plant a seed inside and lightly water.
- Keep them in a sunny spot and mist with water when needed.
- Once they sprout, plant them directly into the ground - shell and all!
Each of these crafts proves that small, simple sustainable swaps for crafts can help save water and reduce waste. Whether you’re making a bunny-shaped rain catcher or giving tin cans a second life, you’re making a difference. So this Easter, let’s celebrate with creativity, sustainability, and a sprinkle of eco-friendly fun!
