The sun looks like it’s coming out this weekend! Hooray! With the wonderful weather upon us, it's the perfect time to get outdoors, soak up some rays, and enjoy the summer vibes. Whether you're planning a fun day out or just relaxing at home, we have some great tips to help you make the most of the sunshine while being mindful of your water usage.
When it's warm, we all use more water for things like watering our gardens or filling up paddling pools. To ensure there's enough water for everyone, we can make a few simple changes. These changes will help make sure there's enough water for everyone in your community.
Stay hydrated
As the temperatures rise, staying hydrated is essential. Instead of running the tap until the water gets cold, keep a jug of water in the fridge for a refreshing, cool drink whenever you need it. This simple habit not only keeps you hydrated but also conserves water.
Water your garden efficiently
Your plants will be thirsty too but be mindful not to over water them! To keep them looking lovely, water them early in the morning or late in the evening to minimise evaporation. Using a watering can instead of a hose can help you control the amount of water you use and direct it where it's needed most.
You can find some great tips from Sam Proctor and Joe’s Garden on our tips page.

Staying cool
If you use a padding pool, consider using a pool cover to keep the water clean and reduce evaporation, or use a splash pool to cool off instead of a large paddling pool.
If you decide to use a sprinkler, set a timer to avoid over-watering and turn it off when you're done.

Collect rainwater
If you have a garden, consider setting up a water butt for when the inevitable summer rain returns. Collecting rainwater is a great way to ensure you have a supply of water for your plants during dry spells. Plus, it's free and eco-friendly!

Shorten your showers
A refreshing shower is great after a hot day but try to keep it short. You could save up to 30 litres every day by spending 2 minutes less in the shower without having to sacrifice that clean, fresh feeling.

Fix those leaks
Check around your home for any dripping faucets or pipes. Even a tiny drip can waste a lot of water over time. For example, fixing a leaky toilet could save you 400 litres of water each day! Fixing leaks is an easy way to save water and lower your water bill.

We hope everyone enjoys the wonderful weather and takes the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful outdoors, while staying hydrated. With these water-saving tips, you can stay cool and hydrated while being kind to the environment. Enjoy the sunshine and remember to save water wherever you can!
