Affinity Water volunteers step up for WaterAid Mountain Challenge

Affinity Water volunteers joined the annual WaterAid Mountain Challenge trekking event on 9 June to raise money to help make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene become a normal part of life for people around the world.

Rosemary Inman, James Ratcliffe, Rowan Huggins, Jack Dodd and Alex Sage from Affinity Water’s graduate programme tackled the Pen-y-Ghent peak in the Yorkshire Dales, with the challenging elevation gain of 650m over a six-mile hike.

The team were raising money for the WaterAid ‘Winnovators’ project, helping to solve real life hygiene, sanitation and water issues across India. So far, the WaterAid Mountain Challenge raised £600 to go towards these projects, but more is in the ‘pipeline’.

The mountain challenge is just one of the events that the Affinity Water team is participating in to raise money. Last month, the team helped to organise a race night or 'Alternative Ascot' and raised £3,871 to go toward their £5,000 target.

Affinity Water graduate scientist, Alex Sage said: “The WaterAid Mountain Challenge was a great experience and has helped us get a step closer to our fundraising target.”

Affinity Water has been an active supporter of WaterAid over the years and has helped to raise over £10 million since the charity started in 1981.
