Water Saving Week – See how saving water could save you money!

Affinity Water is taking part in celebrating the national Water Saving Week (19 – 23 March), hosting fun activities and handing out FREE water saving devices to customers in their area.

During the week, the water saving team has invited National Environment charity Hubbub in to host a quiz and will be giving away devices to help save water and money in the home. Teams across the business will also be taking part in a ‘walk for water’ event, with donations going to Water Aid.

Demand for water has doubled in the last 50 years, with the average household using 154 litres a day. As a water company that relies heavily on groundwater resources, rainfall is needed to reach their aquifers (porous rock where groundwater is stored), as this is used for 60% of supplies.

If you would like to help and save water and money in your home and garden, just follow these simple steps below.

Top water saving tips
  • Shorten your shower - take a 4-minute shower instead of a bath – you will save around 50 litres.
  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, and save over 6,500 litres of water a year and encourage others in your household to do the same
  • Don’t overfill the bath – if you do fancy a bath try and use less water in it – it is easy to save over 30 litres each time
  • Only run your washing machine and dishwasher with a full load – this uses less water than two half loads
  • Whenever you can, use the half flush button if you have a dual flush toilet
  • A cistern displacement device can save one litre per flush, saving up to 5,000 litres a year.
  • Fix dripping taps and you could save over 5,500 litres of water a year. If you need to find an approved plumber visit
  • Reset your lawn mower blades to 4cm to encourage dense bushy growth, which traps early morning dew and reduces evaporation.
  • When you are watering try use a watering can filled from a water butt.
  • Water your pots and hanging baskets either early in the morning or during the evening to reduce evaporation in the midday sun.
