Affinity Water invites residents to a community event to learn more about Hempstead to Steeple Bumpstead essential water mains works

Affinity Water’s community event will be held at Hempstead Village Hall car park on 4 January from 10am - 12pm, where residents will be able to ask any questions and give feedback.

Work to replace the water mains on the B1054 between Hempstead and Steeple Bumpstead will start on 5 January.

The new water pipes are essential to help reduce disruption from leaks and bursts, leave more water in the precious environment and will help the water supplier to continue to provide a reliable, high quality supply of water to the local community long into the future.

The work will start on High Street, Hempstead near the Old Vicarage and there'll be a full road closure of the B1054 (Bumpstead Road) heading to Steeple Bumpstead, with a traffic diversion in place. This will be clearly signed from all directions and access will be maintained for residents through the roadworks.

Affinity Water have worked hard to make sure the diversion will be in place for no longer than is necessary. Due to the location, there are limited options for a traffic diversion and as part of preparations the company have been in contact with the parish council, the Highway Authority and transport teams at Essex County Council to make sure that it's suitable and safe for everyone.

As part of its engagement programme, three weeks ahead of the works, letters were sent to the residents impacted directly and indirectly. The water supplier has also issued a number of email, social media and SMS alerts. Businesses and schools impacted have been contacted in advance as well.

Kevin Barton, Head of External Communications at Affinity Water said:

“We’ll soon be starting work to replace water mains on the B1054, Bumpstead Road between Hempstead and Steeple Bumpstead. Our community event on 4 January at Hempstead Village Hall car park is another way for the local community to come and talk to us about these works and to ask us any questions.

“These new water pipes are essential to help reduce disruption from leaks and bursts, leave more water in our precious environment and will help to us to continue to provide a reliable, high-quality supply of water to the local community long into the future.

“We realise these works may be disruptive to local traffic and journeys. We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this work may cause and would like to thank local residents for their patience during this time.
