Local water supplier, Affinity Water is inviting local residents to come along and find out more about the river improvement works and other exciting river restoration works planned in the Luton area.
Affinity Water’s ‘Water Saving Squad’ will also be on hand to give out FREE water saving devices and helpful tips to save water.
The river restoration and park improvements were carried out by Affinity Water in collaboration with Luton Council, The Environment Agency, and The Luton Lea River Catchment Partnership.
Affinity Water Asset Scientist and Project Manager, Jane Everett said: “The aim of our river restoration programme of works is to re-connect globally rare chalk streams to their natural environment and to reinstate and create sustainable habitats for fish, insects and plants. We have broken the River Lea out of the confined concrete channel which hide the river behind railings and given it space to meander through the park and provide space for wildlife to flourish. We would like to encourage local residents to come and take a look and to find out how these changes are beneficial for both people and wildlife.”
