The largest Water only company in the UK, Affinity Water has signed up to the government’s Kickstart scheme to provide 15 placements to 16-24 year-olds in need of work.
The government scheme aims to create 250,000 jobs for young people in the wake of the pandemic and runs until December 2021. The Kickstart scheme allows employers to offer young people claiming universal credit a six-month work placement funded by the government.
The Affinity Water placements will be spread across its three regions in Folkestone, Hatfield, Staines, Stevenage, and Luton. It covers a number of different positions in Assurance, Finance & Business Services, Customer Service, HR and Culture, and Leakage. In roles such as laboratory assistant, sampling assistant, leakage assistant, transformation delivery, business change, data analyst and renewable energy assistant.
Tania Flasck, Director of People and Culture said:
“We are pleased to work with the Department of Work and Pensions to tackle the problem of youth unemployment. We know that youth charities have been warning of the scarring impact of the Covid19 pandemic on youth unemployment which remains stubbornly high, and we hope that the fifteen placements we are offering to young people in this region in receipt of universal credit will enable them to acquire the skills they need to secure work in the longer term.
“The placements we are offering are based in our communities across our region in London and the South East and across the full range of the skills we and other water companies across the UK need and recruit regularly for. It’s exciting for Affinity Water to Kickstart its own Kickstart opportunities and we hope that our young recruits will benefit significantly from the opportunities on offer.”
