Last week, 20 students took part in Industrial Cadets. Industrial Cadets is an accredited work experience programme for young people, supported by the Engineering Development Trust (EDT).
Our Education Team worked with the students, during the STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) work experience week, to deliver a structured programme of activities, including; site visits, hands-on team tasks and workshops.
Education Manager Hannah Battram said: “It’s been a really busy and hectic week with this year’s Industrial Cadets, who have spent the week at Affinity Water learning all about the water industry and planning their projects, which focus on water conservation.
“We’re so proud of the positive attitude and commitment they showed throughout the week and it really paid off with fantastic presentations to Pauline Walsh and Tony Cocker on Friday! They had a range of suggested solutions from social media campaigns, incentivised reward and point schemes, digital and game style apps, through to schools and community engagement, collaboration with various departments internally as well as working with other industries and stakeholders externally.
“It has been fantastic to see these young people develop their skills over the week, overcome personal challenges (e.g. public speaking, meeting new people etc.), showcase their ideas and most impressively do all of this during their school holidays! Thanks for being so brilliant to work with - we are really proud of you!
The students all received a nationally recognised Silver level Industrial Cadets award. This is similar to receiving a Duke of Edinburgh award, but with a focus on STEM. Students can use this award when applying for jobs and further education.
