Affinity Water has a range of services to help people who may be living with dementia.
The local water supplier encourages customers to sign up to their Priority Services Register which can help people in vulnerable situations with extra support during a supply interruption. Customers can also benefit from a password scheme to protect against bogus callers, opt for communications to be in large print or braille and nominate a close friend or family member to manage their water account on their behalf. Help with paying bills may also be available for those who receive certain qualifying benefits.
Affinity Water is a part of the Dementia Friends initiative which aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about dementia. Front line teams from the water company take part in Dementia Friends information sessions to gain a better understanding of the condition and encourage others to make their community more dementia-friendly.
The company also works with other utilities to inform customers of any services that may be of help to them such as the locking cooker valve provided by Cadent Gas. The locking cooker valve is a simple safety device to help a person living in a vulnerable situation keep their independence and provide reassurance to family, friends and carers.
