Affinity Water gives ASCEND a helping hand

ASCEND, a local charity in South Oxhey, Hertfordshire has received a funding boost of £2,500 to build an outdoor classroom at their Dig Deep allotment project, thanks to Affinity Water’s Community Engagement Programme.

The charity provides careers advice, training, a job club and more for residents in the South Oxhey and Three Rivers District area to help increase their skills, confidence and self-esteem, and support them into employment, learning or volunteering.

With the money donated, ASCEND has built an outdoor log cabin, named The Seed Pod, which will be used as a classroom for the Dig Deep volunteers and other ASCEND classes such as art and creative writing. The roof of the cabin also acts as a water collection point which flows into a large water butt to help keep their garden green throughout the summer.

Christine Wyard, Project Director said: “We are absolutely delighted at the support Affinity Water has given to our Dig Deep project. The Seed Pod will make a big difference to Dig Deep, providing shelter in the Winter months and a great learning resource for our beneficiaries.”

Bev Taylor, Chair of the Community Review panel said: “We are pleased to have the chance to support ASCEND. Affinity Water is a community-focused organisation serving local people and we want to be involved in projects which benefit the communities we serve.”
