Affinity Water’s award winning Education Team took part in the initiative by welcoming nearly a hundred year 3 pupils from Martins Wood Primary School in Stevenage to their education centre in Bushey, Hertfordshire.
The visiting children took part in the Rolling Rivers Day. Through a range of interactive activities, the children found out how water gets from source to tap, how rivers work and the impact humans can have on their environment. The activities helped them understand the impact that they can have on the natural environment and how they can take personal responsibility to look after their local area; for example, by using less water and taking steps to care for their local river catchment.
Hannah Battram, Education Services Manager said, “It was great to celebrate Empty Classroom day with Martins Wood School. Helping young people understand what is happening in the environment around them and the positive role they can have in that process, is important in helping future generations value and protect our water resources. It also provides opportunities for the children to think independently, and they often feel challenged and excited by learning and playing outdoors.”
