Commercial Leak Allowance Policy
What allowance can I expect to get?
If you have a leak on your underground supply pipe you will normally be entitled to an allowance on your sewerage charges only.
Will I be entitled to any allowance on my water charges?
As a commercial customer, you have no automatic right to a leak allowance on your water volumetric charges where a leak has occurred on pipework that is your responsibility.
If you are a monthly billed commercial customer you are not eligible for a leak allowance on your water charges.
If you are a half yearly or quarterly billed customer you are responsible for the cost of the leaked water, but your liability is limited:
- If you are a business, commercial organisation, school, local authority, health authority or similar organisation you would not be expected to pay more than an amount equivalent to 5% of your annual business turnover. For example, if you have an annual turnover of £100,000 you will be liable for the first £5,000 of leaked water. In this example if the cost of the leaked water was £6,000 you would be granted an allowance of £1,000.
- If you are a registered charity or a voluntary club you would not be expected to pay more than the cost of 5 times your normal annual water consumption for water lost because of a leak.
Will I be entitled to a leak allowance if the leak is on my internal plumbing?
As a commercial customer you would not be entitled to an allowance for an internal leak on either water or sewerage.
