Winner - Girl Guiding Wealdstone Division

Wealdstone Division is part of Girlguiding, the UK's leading charity for women and girls. They give girls and young women a space where they can be themselves, help them have fun, build brilliant friendships, gain valuable life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and their communities.

The funding will help modernise their headquarters to ensure it stays safe and suitable for the girls and Leaders using it. There is also a community nursery that use the building five days a week.

This funding will mean the group will be able to offer more activities for young members in the future, helping the wider community and build future skills.

Monitoring and Improving Harrow’s Watercourses

The Harrow Nature Conservation Forum is a subcommittee of the Harrow Heritage Trust, a registered charity. They are the umbrella group for the volunteer wardens of Harrow’s wild open spaces and work to improve natural sites for people and wildlife and to increase public awareness of nature in Harrow.

The aim of the project is to monitor and improve natural watercourses in Harrow, involve young people, and raise awareness of watercourses. The funding we provide will go towards the organisation of two events for children. Get into Nature, tools for creation of leaky dams and supplies for water testing in the field and in the laboratory.

The project supports the protection of local rivers and habitats and future skills. A reduction of flood risk and improvement of water quality is anticipated. It will also provide work experience for local schoolchildren in both on site and laboratory aspects of water testing.
