Domestic water meter application

As part of our Water Saving Programme, we’ll be installing around 280,000 household meters, to find out when your meter should be fitted please click here.

However, if you wish to apply for a water meter now complete the form below. In almost all cases, meters are usually fitted for free for domestic customers and the meter installation process can take up to 90 days.

Please note: you will not be able to change back to non-metered billing once a meter has been fitted whether you have an existing meter, are part of the Water Saving Programme or apply directly.

To complete this application you will need:

  • Your customer number including the check digit (this can be found on your bill)
  • A convenient date and time for us to survey your property

If you are a tenant, we recommend you get permission from your landlord so that we can carry out any work needed to fit the meter anywhere on the property, whether outside or inside. 

We are currently experiencing a very high volume of applications. Although we plan for this seasonal increase in demand, unfortunately there may be a delay finding an appointment. We are working hard to rectify this. Please note: all available appointments are shown on the booking calendar.

Important notice about your electricity supply

When installing meters in properties built before 1996, it may be necessary to replace old metal pipes. Some older electricity systems still rely on the supply pipe providing an 'earth' - this is now prohibited. If you believe your property may have this system, you should contact a qualified electrician to ensure you have an adequate earth. Any costs involved cannot be reimbursed by Affinity Water.
