We're starting work to improve our pipes in your area

In January, we'll be starting work to replace the water mains on the B1054 between Hempstead and Steeple Bumpstead.  

These new water pipes are essential to help reduce disruption from leaks and bursts, leave more water in our precious environment and will help to us to continue to provide a reliable, high quality supply of water to you and your local community long into the future.

Location of works

The work will start on High Street, Hempstead near the Old Vicarage and there'll be a full road closure of the B1054 (Bumpstead Road) heading to Steeple Bumpstead, with a traffic diversion in place.  This will be clearly signed from all directions and access will be maintained for residents through the roadworks.

We know that the works will be inconvenient and may mean you need to allow more time for your journeys. We've worked hard to make sure we don't have the diversion in place for longer than we need to. Due to the location, there are limited options for a traffic diversion and we've been in contact with your parish council, the Highway Authority and transport teams at Essex County Council to make sure that it's suitable and safe for everyone.    

When we'll be working

• Approximate dates: 5th January 2022 to early March 2022
• Working hours: 7am - 5pm (Mon - Fri), 8am - 2pm (Sat) & 9am - 1pm (Sun)

How does this affect you?

• Traffic management:  There'll be a full road closure on the B1054 with a traffic diversion in place for the duration of the works.  The map below shows the location of the road closure on Bumpstead Road highlighted in yellow and the official diversion route is highlighted in blue. This is approved by the Highways Authority and is the safest route for all vehicle types.  You may notice a bit more traffic in the area due to the diversion.  
• Your water supply:  Your water will continue running as usual during these works.
