Water-saving tips

On average, customers in our area use around 156 litres per person every day, compared to the national average of 145 litres.

We're doing everything we can to help our customers use less than 125 litres per person per day.

As the weather gets colder, we want to help you keep life flowing. With temperatures dropping, a little preparation goes a long way to protect your home and water supply.

Why it matters:

Freezing weather can cause pipes inside your home - and in our network - to freeze and burst. This puts your home and our water supply under pressure. That’s why we’re working hard to help keep life flowing, with extra teams and supplies on standby, and why your actions at home make such a difference.

How to prepare your home for winter

Kitchen Tips

Fully load and use ECO mode

Only run your washing machine or dishwasher when full and use the ECO setting. You could save 14 litres every wash in your washing machine, and running your dishwasher this way is more effective than washing up by hand.

Fit a tap aerator

You could save 40 litres a day by fitting a tap aerator in your kitchen. It reduces water flow without impacting pressure.

Skip the pre-rinse

Scrape your plates before loading them into the dishwasher, rather than rinsing them. You could save up to 1,115 litres a year with this simple swap.

Bathroom tips

Take shorter showers

Cutting just two minutes from your shower can save up to 30 litres every time you shower.

Fix a leaky loo

A constantly running toilet can waste up to 400 litres a day. Use our free LeakyLoo strips to check for hidden leaks, or book a FREE Leak Visit.

Turn off the tap when brushing

Brushing your teeth with the tap off saves 24 litres a day - a small habit that makes a big difference.

Garden & outdoor tips

Use a water butt to collect water

Make the most of the wetter months by installing a water butt. You’ll have a ready supply of rainwater to use in the garden come spring.

Clear your gutters

Fallen leaves and debris can clog gutters and downpipes. Clearing them now helps prevent flooding, blockages and water damage in the colder months.

Use a tap jacket to protect your taps

Use a tap jacket on your outdoor taps. It keeps them insulated, prevents freezing and helps stop pipes from bursting in cold snaps. Find out how to get one free below.
